The Gift Of Speaking In Tongues- Part 6

By Dan

91) In Eph. 6. Paul explains the armor of God that we are to put on. 92) It’s because our fight is not with flesh and blood- a) in other words people are not the root cause of problems but it’s because of b) Eph. 6:12-For we are not wrestling with flesh and blood [contending only with physical opponents] c) but against the despotisms d) against powers e) against [ the master spirits who are] f) the world rulers of this present darkness g) against the spirit forces of wickedness h) in the heavenly (supernatural) sphere. 93) Eph. 6:13 says-Therefore put on God’s complete armor, a) that you may be able to resist and stand your ground on the evil day [of danger], b) and having done all [the crisis demands], c) to stand [firmly in your place].

THERE ARE SEVEN PIECES OF GOD’S ARMOR. USING THE YOUNG’S LITERAL TRANSLATION(YLT)-94) a) Stand therefore, having your loins girt about in truth. My explanation of this is Ro. 5:9-Therefore, since we are justified(acquitted, made righteous, and brought into right relationship with God) by Christ’s blood, how much [certain is it that] we shall be saved by Him from the indignation and wrath of God(Ampc). This truth must be realized and established in your heart to know where you stand with God. b) Eph. 6:14 (cont’d)-having put on the the breastplate of the righteousness(2 Cor. 5:21 says-For He made Him Who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. This is something we should be confessing everyday-I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. This will establish your heart in righteousness, for Isaiah 54:14 says-you shall establish yourself in righteousness, and this is the way to do it, by  confessing it everyday, this is extremely vital, beloved child of God). 95) Eph. 6:15 says-and the feet shod in the preparation of the good news of the peace(Ro. 5:1 explains-Therefore since we are justified, declared righteous, and given a right standing with God) through faith, let us [grasp the fact that we] have [ the peace of reconciliation to hold and to enjoy] peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ(the Messiah, the Anointed One). So now beloved child of God we have peace with God, no longer are we at war and enemies of God(Col 1:21-22, Eph. 2:2-5)).

96) Eph. 6:16 says- above all, having taken up the shield of faith, in which ye shall be able all the fiery darts of the evil one to quench. Let’s look at Matt 4:10-Then Jesus said to him, Be gone satan! For it is written you shall worship the Lord your God and Him alone shall you serve. What this means is that Jesus used the Word of God to quench the fiery darts of satan. We must also use the Word of God to cast down thoughts from the enemy(2Cor 10:3-5). We must also be able to say to the enemy-it is written. This takes renewing of the mind with the Word of God to speak out God’s Word to the enemy(Eph. 4:23, Ro. 12:2, Prov. 4:20-23)). 97) Eph. 6:17 says- a) and the helmet of salvation receive ( Let’s look at 1Thess. 5:8-But we belong to the day, therefore, let us be sober and put on the breastplate (corslet) of faith and love and for a helmet the hope of salvation. Col 1:27 says Jesus is the Hope of Glory and Ro. 13:14 says to put on Christ Jesus Who is the Hope of Glory. Ro. 5:2 says-Through Him also we have [our] access (entrance, introduction) by faith into this grace (state of God’s favor) in which we [ firmly and safely] stand. And let us rejoice and exult in our hope of experiencing and enjoying the glory of God. This is our hope we are to put on as a helmet. Pro. 10:28(a) also says the hope of the [uncompromisingly] righteous (the upright, in right standing with God) is gladness.  Titus 2:13 says-Awaiting and looking for the [fulfillment, the realization of our] blessed hope, even the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Christ Jesus(the Messiah, the Anointed One). The hope of looking for His appearing purifies you.

Arm yourself also with these scriptures about hope, Ro. 8:23-25, 1Peter 5:4, 2Tim. 4:8).  97b) and the sword of the Spirit, which is the saying of God(which is a rhema word from God. (Let’s look at John 10:27-The sheep that are My own hear and are listening to My voice; and I know them and they follow Me). 98) Eph. 6:18 says-through all prayer and supplication, praying at all times in the Spirit and in regard to that same, watching, in all perseverance and supplication for all the saints. 99) In most translations verse 18 does not use ‘through’ all prayer and supplication a) praying at all times in the Spirit. 100) But the Greek uses the preposition ‘through’ (dia). 101) Which means you receive the 97a) helmet of salvation and 97b) the sword of the Spirit(the saying of God-a rhema Word from God) through praying in the Spirit, because it says receive the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit in 97 a& b,  THROUGH all prayer and supplication, praying at all times in the Spirit,  which is a continuing thought in Eph. 6:18. b) This is very important because it explains that praying in the Spirit c) is the way those two pieces of armor are received, the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the saying of God . 102) When you pray in the Spirit, you can pray for all the saints. a) For you are praying things you don’t know when you yield to the Spirit.

DRAWING ON THE SPIRIT- 68) Speaking in tongues gives you power to walk this Christian life by being immersed into the Holy Spirit. a) Speaking in tongues empowers your spirit to release what’s inside of you through the Holy Spirit. b) To impact your soul and body the Holy Spirit takes a hold of you and prays for you. 69) For when you speak in an unknown tongue, your spirit prays [by the Holy Spirit within you] (1Cor. 14:14). 70) Eph. 6:10 again says-In conclusion, be strong in the Lord[empowered through your union with Him]; a) draw your strength from Him b) [that strength which His boundless might provides]. 71) Speaking in tongues will draw strength from your spirit where the Holy Spirit inhabits. 72) Pro. 20:5 says-counsel in the heart of man is like water in a deep well a) but a man of understanding draws it out. 73) Prov. 18:4 says-The words of a [discreet and wise] man’s mouth are like deep waters [plenteous and difficult to fathom] and the fountain of skillful and godly wisdom is like a gushing stream [sparkling, fresh, pure, and life giving].

74) Jesus has been made Wisdom unto us(1Cor. 1:30). He is in your spirit. 75) You can draw on that Wisdom by speaking in tongues. 76) Jesus in John 7:38 said-He who believes in Me [who cleaves to and trusts in and relies on Me] as the scripture has said, from his innermost being shall flow a) [continuously] springs and rivers of living water. b) Speaking in tongues, praying in tongues(your heavenly language) allows the waters to flow. 77) John 7:39 says- He was speaking here of the Spirit, a) Whom those who believed (trusted, had faith), in Him were afterward to receive. b)For the Holy Spirit had not yet been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified (raised to honor). c) Rivers flow when the Spirit is able to pray through you. 78) Ro. 8:26 tells us- So too the [Holy] Spirit comes to our aid and bears us up in our weaknesses; a) for we do not know what prayer to offer b) nor how to offer it worthily as we ought, c) but the Spirit Himself goes to meet our supplication d) and pleads in our behalf e) with unspeakable yearnings and groanings f) too deep for utterance. 79) Ro. 8:27 says- And He Who searches the hearts of men knows a) what is in the mind of the [Holy]  Spirit [what His intent is] b) because the Spirit intercedes and pleads [before God] c) in behalf of the saints d) according to and in harmony with God’s will. e) So you are praying God’s perfect will when praying in tongues. 80) So praying in your prayer language, you’re allowing the Holy Spirit to pray through you. a) And He prays for you, if you allow yourself to pray in the Spirit. 81) When you don’t know what to pray, praying in the Spirit will help you.

82) There is great advantage and benefits praying in the Spirit. 83) The syllables you let out, the Holy Spirit puts His power on them and it becomes anointed. 84) It’s child like faith to believe and do this. Take it by faith. Jesus says when the Son of man comes will He find faith on the earth(Luke 18:8).  85) It may sound like gibberish to you when you first start, but remember God says He will speak to this people with stammering lips. Trust God and believe. 86) When you pray in a tongue, you’re praying to a God Whom You know is taking care of things supernaturally and according to His will. He puts His super on your natural. You are co-laborers together (1Cor. 3:9). 87) Your spirit is praying [by the Holy Spirit within you]. a) The mind is unproductive. 88) In 1Cor. 14:15, Paul says-he prays with his spirit [ by the Holy Spirit that is within me ] a) and he will also pray with his mind, his understanding. b) So it’s good to do both. c) God needs your tongue because we are co-laborers. 89) In Cor. 14:18 Paul says-I thank God that I speak in [strange] tongues(languages) a) more than any of you or all of you put together; 90) Remember when you are praying in tongues, you are worshiping and magnifying the Lord (Acts 10:46).

SPEAKING IN STRANGE LANGUAGES IS A REST-55) Father God, beloved child of God, wrote in 1Cor. 14:21-It is written in the Law, by men of strange languages and by the lips of foreigners will I speak to this people, and not even then will they listen to Me, says the Lord. He is quoting from the old testament. 56) He was referencing Isaiah 28:11-12. a) No,  but [ the Lord will teach the rebels in a more humiliating way] by men with stammering lips and another tongue will He speak to this people [says Isaiah, and teach them His lessons]. 57) Isaiah 28:12- To these [complaining Jews the Lord] had said, This is the true rest a) [the way to true comfort and happiness] b) that you shall give to the weary, and, This is the [true] refreshing-c) yet they would not listen [to His teaching]. 58) So God knew there would be those who wouldn’t believe.  a) He provided tongues for a true rest and refreshing (Is. 28:12). b) So speaking in tongues gives you rest and refreshing, tongues is a rest. 59) Heb. 4:10 says-For he who has once entered [ God’s] rest also has ceased from the weariness and pain] of human labors. 60) Speaking in tongues provides relief from weariness and pain-there will be an ease in your labor.

61) Remember when speaking in tongues you are speaking mysteries to God. a) Who knows what incredible things you could be praying. 62) Lam. 3:26 says-It is good that one should hope in and wait quietly for the salvation ( the ease of the Lord). 63) Israel did not believe God and never entered His rest because of hardened hearts. a) 40 years was He grieved with them. b) Ps. 95:11 says- wherefore I said in my wrath that they would not enter My rest(Hebrew word(menuchah)). c) This is the same word used as rest for stammering lips in Isaiah.  d) Hebrews 4:5-talks of the same passage in Ps. 95-where it says, they shall not enter God’s rest. e) then in 11, it says let us labor to enter the rest of God. f) Maybe it’s talking about tongues, to enter that rest(same Hebrew word-menuchah). 64) Matthew 11:28 says-Come to me all who labor and are heavy laden-a) overburdened, and I will cause you to rest.  b) [I will ease and relieve and refresh your souls] 65) Matt. 11:29 says-Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me, a) for I am gentle(meek) and humble (lowly) in heart, b) and you will find rest(relief and ease and refreshment and recreation c) and blessed quiet for your souls. 66) Matt. 11:30 says-For My yoke is wholesome(useful, good-not harsh, hard, sharp, or a) pressing, but comfortable, gracious, and pleasant) b) and My burden is light and easy to be borne. 67) Again, God says-tongues is a rest and God says it’s His rest and refreshing in Isaiah 28:12. What this means is, that your activities will be Spirit directed, for the Lord will have worked in you His will and the desire for you to do(Ph. 2:13) and there will be an ease to it.

35) The New York Times had an article of a research study done in the United Kingdom about speaking in tongues. 36) The study followed 1000 evangelicals. 37) The research conclusion was that speaking in tongues consistently and regularly resulted in having fewer mental disorders than those who don’t speak in tongues. The New York Times affirmed that speaking in tongues is valid. The University of Pennsylvania 38) conducted a study in the neuroscience department on speaking in tongues. 39) They took people praying in tongues and analyzed the brain.  40) They took a look at what was going on in the  the brain activity. 41) The frontal lobe which controls the speech of a person, when they prayed in English was active, it was firing. 42) When they transitioned to speaking in tongues, all the activity in the frontal lobe went dormant. 43) It affirms 1Cor. 14:14-For if I pray in an unknown tongue my spirit [ by the Holy Spirit with in me] prays but my mind is unproductive [it bears no fruit and helps nobody].

At O.R.U Carl Peterson 44) studied the effect of praying in tongues on the immune system. 45) It was concluded that if you pray in tongues consistently and extendedly, the immune system of the individual gets boosted 35-40%. 46) The immune system gets activated. Praying in tongues impacts the part of the brain where the immune system is centered-the hypothalamus. 47) The hypothalamus is activated when you pray in tongues and it releases a supernatural immunity in the body. 48) The tongue is connected to the brain when one is speaking English and when praying in tongues it is connected to the individual’s spirit.

IN YOUR SOUL:-49) when praying in tongues God can work on things deeply embedded such as fears, anxieties, and stress. He’ll work on these to get to the root. 50) He’ll give strength on the inside so you can handle the world. 51) So you can gain victory over fears, anxiety, stress, panic, attacks, worry, etc. These are enemies of the soul. a) because what goes in the soul can affect the body and health, God will work on these things first before seeing healing in the body manifest. Again, as said before God works on the principle of little by little(Ex. 23:30 says-Little by little I will drive them out from before you, until you have increased and are numerous enough to take possession of the land).  b) Prov. 14:30 says-A calm and undisturbed mind and heart are the life and health of the body, but envy, jealousy and wrath are like rottenness of the bones.

IN YOUR SPIRIT:-52) you will be able to move mountains by building up your spiritual muscles and you will be able to push back the plans of the enemy. 53) Jude 20 says-But you beloved build yourselves up [founded] on your most holy faith [make progress, rise like an edifice, higher and higher] praying in the Holy Spirit. 54) So beloved child of God, it is a crucial thing to pray in the spirit consistently and extendedly to build your whole being up.

The Gift Of Speaking In Tongues: Part 2

By Dan

What Occurs When One Speaks In Tongues? 18) According to 1Cor. 14:4, He who speaks in a [strange] tongue edifies and improves himself. 19) 1Cor. 14:2 says-For one who speaks in an [unknown] tongue speaks not to men but to God, for no one understands or catches his meaning a) because in the [Holy]  Spirit he utters secret truths and hidden things [not obvious to the understanding]. b) So it’s important to speak in tongues because you are speaking mysteries to God. 20) When you speak in tongues, you edify your whole self because it says ‘himself’ in 1Cor. 14:4, it doesn’t just say your spirit, but your whole self-spirit, soul and body.

21) Let’s consider what praying in the Spirit (tongues) does to edify your body. 22) Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit(1Cor. 6:19).  23) Let’s look at the word ‘edify’. In the Greek it is oikodomeo. a) It means to construct, edify. b) oikodomeo as a verb literally means to build a house. c) oikos-a house/ domeo-to build. d) In Latin-noun(aedes-meaning house or temple) e) Aedes-the root of aedificare-a verb meaning to erect a house. Today we use the word edify to refer to being morally edified and comforting, but the root word is physical, referring to building.  f) This word can be used in speaking of one who builds himself up. g) In 1Peter 2:5 it says- Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men but chosen by God and precious, you also, as living stones are built up a spiritual HOUSE, a holy priesthood to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

24) A temple is a building, our bodies are temples. 25) When we speak in tongues, we are constructing and repairing our bodies, which is what edify means. Praying in tongues builds up your body and keeps you in a place where you are built up, so stress, fear, worry, anxiety, panic attacks will not have any more victory over your life. You can be free from addictions and physical infirmities. 26) We are a house as 1Peter 2:5 says. 27) Since you are a  temple, your body is the Holy of Holies. 28) Even though the Holy Spirit indwells our spirits, 1Cor. 6:19 says we are the temple of the Holy Spirit. God wants wants His temple, which is your body, well, healthy and whole as in 3John 2-Beloved, I wish above all things that you prosper and be in health even as your soul prospers. 29) So praying in tongues produces health for your body.

30) When praying in tongues you are building, constructing, and repairing your body. When you begin to pray in tongues, you may not see immediacy of health, and you may experience a spiritual attack of telling you to stop and give up, don’t. After a while you realize something deep down is happening. Long before you see the removal of any ailments by praying in tongues, God is first dealing with your fears, anxiety, panic attacks, depression and stress before you see changes in health. God is dealing from the inside out. God works on the principle of little by little(Ex. 23:30 says-Little by little I will drive them out from before you, until you have increased and are numerous enough to take possession. 31) Tongues is a gift given, that if not used,  you are limiting health benefits to your body(the temple of the Holy Spirit).

32) So to repeat, you are building, constructing, and repairing your body. 33) Eph. 6:10 says-In conclusion, be strong in the Lord [be empowered through your union with Him]; draw your strength from Him [that strength which His boundless might provides]. So you are in Christ through the Holy Spirit indwelling your spirit. 34) When you pray in tongues you are allowing the Holy Spirit to pray through you and you are drawing strength from your union with Him.
